I’m guessing that’s why you have found your way here, because that’s exactly what this blog will focus on and hopefully help you with. My aim is to bring you the latest in-depth articles, interviews, and news from the heart of this country. My mission is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the situation in Ukraine, with firsthand accounts and insights from the ground.
February 24, 2022, Russia launched an unprovoked illegal full scale invasion of Ukraine. A move Russia have been pushing towards since the started the war in march 2014 with their innovation and annexation of Crimea, and Donbas in February 2015. These annexation were both illegal and never recognized by any other nation than russia. I promise we will spent a lot more time digging into history later on this blog. Russias long and horrific ongoing aggression has led to widespread destruction, significant civilian casualties, and a humanitarian crisis of immense proportions. Which is why it has been increasingly important for me as a journalist and a European citizen, to go to Ukraine myself and make sure people are informed of what’s going on here and don’t forget about the people of Ukraine and their incredibly brave and difficult fight for freedom, independence and returen of their land and citizens.
Key Developments in the War
Since the invasion began, several key events have marked the course of the war:
- Initial Invasion and Kyiv Offensive: In the early stages, Russian forces made a significant push towards Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital. Despite initial advances, Ukrainian resistance proved formidable, and by April 2022, Russian forces were forced to retreat from the Kyiv region.
- Battle of Mariupol: One of the most devastating battles occurred in the city of Mariupol, where prolonged fighting led to a severe humanitarian crisis. The city’s capture by Russian forces in May 2022 marked a significant moment of the war and the city of Mariupol is still illegally occupied today by russians.
- International Response and Sanctions: The invasion prompted a global response, with numerous countries imposing stringent sanctions on Russia. Military aid and humanitarian support have been provided to Ukraine from various international allies reflecting widespread condemnation of Russia’s actions.It’s been far from enough and we still have a long way to go.
- Occupation and Resistance in Eastern Ukraine:The battles has been particularly intense in the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, where Russian-backed forces have continued their occupation. Ukrainian forces’ persistent resistance remains a critical aspect of the war.
- Impact on Civilians:The war has displaced millions, with many seeking refuge in neighboring countries or within safer regions of Ukraine. Civilian infrastructure, including homes, schools, and hospitals, has been severely damaged due to Russian bombardment, creating an ongoing humanitarian emergency.
